Summary

Libraries should be developed into more community‑oriented centres. This would increase citizen dialogue and local community spirit.

Proposal description

The current library system, which is Helmet, is already an amazing starting point. They should be slowly transitioned into yhteisötalo, or community home, like Maunula-talo. This increases civic discussion and community spirit in a local, district level. It also acts as a crisis touchpoint if there ever were to be a crisis, people know a place to come to to get food and help.

This fits with Helsinki's "Pleasant neighbourhoods with a strong sense of community" section in the 2025–2029 Plan.

All Helsinkians, starting from South Helsinkians. Particularly elderly and families with young kids
