Turning libraries into a communal home

Proposal

The current library system, which is Helmet, is already an amazing starting point. They should be slowly transitioned into yhteisätalo, or community home, like Maunula-talo. This increases civic discussion and community spirit in a local, district level. It also acts as a crisis touchpoint if there ever were to be a crisis, people know a place to come to to get food and help.

This fits with Helsinki's "Pleasant neighbourhoods with a strong sense of community" section in the 2025–2029 Plan.

Target group of the proposal

All Helsinkians, starting from South Helsinkians. Particularly elderly and families with young kids

What will improve if the proposal is implemented?

The district community can come together and more can discuss ideas , fits with OmaStadi mission
