Voting process
The OmaStadi vote will take place from 28 February until 18 March 2024. All residents of Helsinki aged 13 and over are eligible to vote. To vote, visit omastadi.hel.fi.
Voting starts on Wednesday 28 February 2024 at 8 o'clock. Voting ends on Monday 18 March 2024 at 23:00. Please note that you must vote by 11:00 p.m.
The results of the vote will be published on the website on Tuesday 19 March 2024 at 12 o'clock.
The vote is regional. You can only vote for the proposals of one area, i.e. major district. Every resident of Helsinki has five votes.
You can vote for five different proposals that you wish to be implemented. You can only cast one vote for the same proposal. Some of the votes can be left unused.
A total of EUR 8.8 million will be spent on the implementation of the OmaStadi proposals in Helsinki. This amount has been divided between the seven major districts of Helsinki. The amount of money available per district is determined by the number of inhabitants.
The voting results will be published once the voting period has ended. They are counted regionally, i.e. for each major district separately. Proposals are ranked according to the number of votes.
The funds for each district will be allocated to the proposals with the highest number of votes as follows:
1. Money is first reserved for the most popular proposal.
2. Then for the next most popular proposals if there is enough money.
3. If the budget of the next most voted for proposal is larger than the sum remaining in the major district, the proposal cannot be implemented. The proposal with the next highest number of votes, for which the region still has enough money, will then be selected.
The Mayor of Helsinki confirms the voting result. The development of feasible proposals then begins, with residents and city employees working together to plan the practical implementation and details of the projects.
