Development of the existing cycling routes

Best regards, OmaStadi Team   With regard to the target network for bicycle traffic, a decision in principle has been made in Helsinki in the light of international practices identified as operational, to switch to a one-way bicycle traffic system. In this case, the goal is that there will be a one-way bike path on the main streets on both sides of the street in the future. Since the Finnish road traffic law, the Finnish Road Traffic Act has since been modified to align that cycle paths will in principle be one-way in the future. I understand from this desire that one-way bike lanes be changed to two-way. This is not in line with our principles or goals. Of course, the desire must be understood, as the current cycling network is still fragmented, with shortcomings in terms of continuity and consistency. These will be remedied and efforts have been made to accelerate this development. Helsingissä on tehty pyöräliikenteen tavoiteverkon osalta periaatepäätös kansainvälisten toimiviksi tunnistettujen käytäntöjen valossa siirtyä lähtökohtaisesti yksisuuntaiseen pyöräliikenteen järjestelmään. Tällöin tavoitteena on, että pääkaduille kadun molemmin puolin tulee jatkossa kulkemaan yksisuuntainen pyörätie. Suomen tieliikennelaki on sittemmin kokonaisuudistuksen yhteydessä muokkaantunut linjaamaan, että pyörätiet ovat jatkossa lähtökohtaisesti yksisuuntaisia. Ymmärrän tästä toiveesta, että yksisuuntaiset pyörätiet muutettaisiin kaksisuuntaisiksi. Tämä ei ole meidän periaatteiden tai tavoitteiden mukaista. Toki toive on ymmärrettävä, sillä nykyinen pyöräliikenteen verkko on vielä pirstaleinen, jolloin jatkuvuuden ja yhdenmukaisuuden osalta puutteita löytyy. Nämä tulevat korjaantumaan ja tätä kehitystä on pyritty nopeuttamaan. Näin ollen tätä toivetta ei voida esittää jatkoon
