Improving the conditions for physical activity in schoolyards in Southern Helsinki

A report on the conditions for physical activity in schoolyards (equipment and sports surfacing, a PE teacher will rate their suitability for physical education). If the City’s divisions are unable to mobilise resources for the schoolyards in the area, the proposals presented in the report can be implemented as projects via OmaStadi budgeting.

The plan has been refined:

On the basis of an investigation, the exercise opportunities in the schoolyards of the southern district of Helsinki will be assessed, taking into account the surroundings of the yards.

The investigation applies, among other things, the mapping of local sports conditions developed in 2013 for the Herttoniemi district within the Terveellinen kaupunginosa project 2007–2011: https://www.hel.fi/static/liv/2013/lahiliikunta-kartoitus.pdf (in Finnish). The main focus is on the schoolyards of comprehensive schools.

The result of the work will be a report giving recommendations and an order of urgency for the development of sports conditions in schoolyards. Illustrative drafts for the improvement of sports conditions (A4/A3) and a preliminary cost estimate will be made for the three most important schoolyards in order of urgency.
