Proposal
Online environment has a variety of threats that we might not be aware about (cyberbullying, invasion of privacy, identity theft, cyber violence, child sexual exploitation etc.). It is very important for parents and school professionals to know about potential dangers and how to deal with them (focusing on kids' security and recognizing sexual predators in the online environment).
In 2020-2021 the City of Helsinki has been implementing an educational program for grammar school teachers and student welfare specialists to prevent Child Sexual Exploitation in the online environment. Virtual coach 'Helvi: Suojellaan lapsia seksuaaliväkivallalta' was designed to raise school staff awareness on the topic (helvi.hel.fi). In 2020 project included education for school staff about emotional and security skills for kids, and how to identify and approach children who have encountered sexual exploitation in the online environment. In 2021 education on the topic is planned for grammar school principals.
This proposal suggests developing the online service similar to Helvi for parents (with visual materials, podcasts, etc.). Nowadays kids are spending many hours in front of a computer or with their smartphones. Parents should be aware of the possible consequences it may have on their children's development, and they should know how to set up limits and boundaries when it comes to using technologies.
Moreover, this proposal suggests the implementation of additional educational workshops for teachers (or student welfare specialists), so that the larger number of school professionals become competent in this topic.
Budgeting (discussed with the City expert)
*developing the online service for parents (similar to Helvi) €20,000
*implementing workshops for teachers (student welfare specialists): 10 workshops = €20,000 (1 workshop for 30 teachers costs €2,000/day)
Total: €40,000

There are lot of visual material for parents, but how should we use it (materialbank for professionals)?
How can we reach parents to learn these new knowledge & skills in this topic?
Should we organized events for parents/families or send them email or something else?
What is the best way?
