Proposal
Nowadays Itäkeskus area is regarded by residents as dysfunctional and even rather dangerous. Creating a recreation zone (possibly with Asukastalo/Community Centre) for kids and adults at the crossroads of Turunlinnantie and Korsholmantie will definitely improve well-being of area residents, engage them in more active social life and promote outdoor recreation.
According to the information from the City experts, parking areas are private property, so it is not possible to put playgrounds or sports equipment there. Moreover, the City has recognized the need for a playground in Itäkeskus, but because of the metro and car traffic noise, it has been very difficult to find a suitable area near the big streets.
Therefore, we agree with the suggestion of the City to create a small outdoor sports area in the middle of the parking lot (there is a small triangle shaped greenspace with grass and trees. That area ( showen at the attatchement 1) is the only one in that direction where the noise level remains somehow reasonable (45-50 dB). The area could include a variety of outdoor sports equipment depending on the size.
Also, it would be great if it's possible to improve the situation with bicycle lanes, e.g. if you ride from Kontula to Itäkeskus, you need to ride on a narrow path for pedestrians sharing it with pedestrians, runners, and other bicycles. Some of those paths require repairing and are in terrible condition.

Kind regards, The City of Helsinki
Creating a recreation zone in the Itäkeskus area could indeed improve the well-being of residents and promote outdoor recreation. However, as per the information from the City experts, it might not be possible to put playgrounds or sports equipment in the parking areas as they are private property. The City has recognized the need for a playground in Itäkeskus, but it has been challenging to find a suitable area near the big streets due to the metro and car traffic noise. bluey
