Urban farming is becoming more popular as a movement for sustainable urban development. There are several benefits to doing it: it impacts on the social well-being of the citizens, it reduces the carbon footprint of the city and the area also acts as carbon skins, it promotes soil regeneration, reduces noise pollution, and provides nutritive and quality food for the gardener. Gardeners consume twice as much fruit and vegetables than non-gardeners. Levels of physical activity are also positively associated with urban farming.
The garden plots in Helsinki area have a huge application line that can take years of waiting for an available place. Let's provide the citizens with more garden plots all over the city and support initiatives and projects of urban farming in Helsinki.
