Proposal
I propose upgrading Helsinki’s streetlights into a smart network that adjusts brightness based on real-time conditions. Lights will dim on empty streets to save energy and brighten when pedestrians or cyclists are nearby to improve safety. This system reduces electricity use, cuts CO₂ emissions, and lowers light pollution. The poles can also host sensors for air quality, noise, or Wi-Fi, creating a more sustainable and connected city.
Target group of the proposal
All residents, especially pedestrians, cyclists, and families
What will improve if the proposal is implemented?
Streets will be safer, while the city saves energy, reduces CO₂ emissions, and lowers
