The artificial illumination affects us humans and other living creatures more than we might think. It directly influences the production of hormone melatonin and, therefore, quality of our sleep. Light and sleep relate to each other very much: the right temperature (color) of light can help us sleep better and perform better, reducing stress and boosting the immune system.
During the day many of us spend lots of time inside without getting enough daylight, while in the evenings we use strong artificial light and watch screens closely before going to bed. This disturbs our circadian rhythm and decreases the quality of our sleep, and good quality sleep is essential for optimal health and mental performance.
This proposal suggests to address the above-mentioned problem in the following 2 ways:
*Creating a website that will educate people about the importance of proper lighting in private and public places, how to illuminate their homes & how important is good quality sleep (using previous research and published Master's thesis).
*Implementing the 'proper lighting' project in Sinebrychoffin puisto (Sinebrychoff Park): 'smart lights' for street illumination i.e. lighting temperature (Kelvin) is regulated depending on the time of the day (based on the successfully executed pilot project in Laajasalo).
Budgeting (discussed with the City expert):
-website €10,000
-'smart lights' in Sinebrychoff Park €50,000
Total: €60,000

Hello,
the co-development of proposals will continue here on OmaStadi website until 21.5.2021. During that time, city experts will comment on proposals and, if necessary, request clarifications so that proposals are ready for cost calculation and later this year for residents to vote on.
So please edit your proposal according to city experts’ comments by the deadline of 21.5.2021.
If you participated in our online workshops during April, please remember to edit your proposal according to comments of the city experts presented there. When the proposal is complete, a city expert acknowledges it by comment: “ready for cost calculation”.
Also note that the title and text of the proposal will appear on OmaStadi website during the vote. Therefore it is worthwhile now to make them as descriptive and attractive as possible.
Looking forward to a nice and healthy First of May 😊
Kind regards,
