Inspired by Central Library Oodi, we suggest a new library for Helsinki. Helsinki International Public Library ('HIP Library') would be a library with an extensive collection of books, newspapers, films and other material in all languages spoken in Helsinki. -springboard for more diversity in Finnish library system, working inside the current library structure to initiate projects and campaigns that works towards a more inclusive and diverse collection, environment and service- +Connected to the current library structure Helsinki International Public Library is an expression of future Helsinki. As a concrete place it will help the City of Helsinki in communicating its library services to international customers and be a 'landmark' of the City's intent to become more accessible for all citizens. Helsinki International Public Library will initiate projects and campaigns – both physical events and digital platforms – that work towards a more inclusive and diverse collection, environment and service that will serve the growing international and internationally oriented population of Greater Helsinki and Finland.
Toimenpiteet
-Co-planning, coordinator or a coordinating organisation for the project, co-curating, networking, collection that includes books and all other media (dvd's, magazines, music, educational material etc.)- +Helsinki International Public Library will be co-planned and co-created with all communities and individuals interested in participating. The intents is that anyone can propose for a book, a film etc. for the library collection. Funds are needed for a coordinator or a coordinating organisation that will lead the project: networking with communities and different groups, co-curating the collections that include books and all other media (dvd's, magazines, music, educational material etc.), directing the design and placemaking proceses in Pasila library that will reflect the international and urban nature of the initiative, and connecting to different stakeholders both in the immediate surroundings and in Greater Helsinki region.

A coordinator / a coordinating organisation will actively contact different communities in the city. All major language groups will be represented, and even smaller language groups should have possibilities to participate. International events arranged in the neighbouring Fair Centre, such as the Book Fair, Slush and Helsinki Design Week, could offer interesting possibilities for collaboration as well as local initiatives that take place all around the city.
