Proper lighting
The artificial illumination affects us humans and other living creatures more than we have been thinking. It directly affects production of hormone melatonin and therefore quality of our sleep which affects quality of our health and immunity.
-Educating people about the importance of proper lightening in private and public places (warm light over cold light), how to illuminate their homes & how important is good quality sleep. Light and sleep relate very much: the right temperature (color) of light can help us to sleep better and perform better, it can reduce tensions and depressions. There is general problem with quality of interior illumination. During the day, when we should accept lots of daylight, we are closed in interiors where we do not get enough light, while in the evening we use strong lights and watch closely screens short before sleep time, which disturb our circadian rhythm and decrease quality of our sleep. And good quality sleep is essential for optimal health and mental performance. This could be used e.g. to educate children, but adults would deserve this too.
-Using smart lights for street illumination where the temperature of light (Kelvin) could be regulated depending on the time of the day: during dark mornings and afternoons in autumn and winter (when people need to wake up and be aware, especially in the traffic) to have lights stronger and white. When active life on the streets calms down in the evening, switching the temperature to warm white or even orange and dimming it to the point that it is safe for people to move around, but not disturbing circadian rhythm of people, as well as of animals and insects (whose well-being we cannot forget about). This idea could be used as a pilot project for a chosen residential area (whole Helsinki in the future).
Budgeting: together with the City experts - educational materials, working hours of light specialists, choosing pilot city area

The City has develop this technically and has already tested it in Laajasalo. A master thesis is published so far.
This needs further brainstorming in the Co-creation sessions.
During teemaraksa on 14.04.21 we discussed our proposal with the City expert Olli Markkanen. He demonstrated a detailed presentation about the topic and gave useful advice on how to proceed with this idea. We decided to choose a specific city area (park) where the project could be implemented. In terms of educating people, Olli suggested to create a website devoted to the topic. We will edit the proposal before 07.05.21.
