Improving recycling and sorting all around Helsinki
Proper recycling is crucial for well-being of city communities and is one of the main dimensions of sustainable development and circular economy (Sustainable Development Goals 2,3,6,11,12,13,14,15).
*In different areas of the city recycling and sorting of trash is not done properly. Some people throw trash without sorting it to different types and mix it all up. It might be because some people are not familiar with recycling rules, or they can't read in Finnish (or even illiterate). Additional info materials with visuals in different languages are needed near recycling points and/or on info boards around the City. Moreover, additional training (e.g. online/offline workshops) might be helpful in educating people and improving the cleanliness of recycling points.
*There are not (enough) trash bins for recycling, for example for bio waste, cardboard/paper or plastic in public spaces such as transportation stations, outdoor sport places, commercial centers. The idea is to create facilities for recycling in public spaces by adding recycling bins and instructions on how to recycle.
*Creating 'police' for garbage control, and also more actively promoting ideas about environment and cleanliness among residents through various environmental organizations (on a local level)
*There is so much food waste in Helsinki. People can donate their extra food for others' use. These food items can be taken to community centers and other such places where residents meet, and those in need can pick them up anonymously. This will reduce food waste and at the same time meet the nutritional needs of people.
*In recent years goose populations in Helsinki have drastically increased. Many residents complained that it's become almost impossible to rest (for example, having a picnic with family and kids) in lots of parks and other green areas due to birds' excrements. More thorough cleaning of these areas could improve recreation zones for residents.

Hi,
thank you for the proposal! Regarding the first section in this proposal, the residential buildings are not part of OmaStadi. Hence, that should be changed to address the City’s premises in order to be feasible in OmaStadi. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
Anni Salla, OmaStadi Team

Hello Anni! Thank you for your comment, I made some changes in the description.
Hey!
During March, city experts have commented on the proposals on the OmaStadi website and the proposals will be finalized together with city experts also in teemaraksa online workshops. Not all proposals will be addressed at teemaraksa workshops, as some will be completed on the OmaStadi website by co-development and discussion.
Teemaraksa workshop for your proposal is taking place on Wednesday 14 April 2021 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
It can happen that you will receive a message from the city expert to the comment field of your proposal that your proposal is ready as such and will proceed next to cost calculation. In this case, we will automatically cancel your registration for the workshop if you have already registered.
Register for the teemaraksa workshop by 5.4. 2021. link:
