the Manual of Urban Farming for Helsinki
Urban Farming is good for the food system of the city and could make community people get closer. And there is a quickly growing number of residents, who want to grow their own food within a short distance of their locality.
The Manual of Urban Farming for Helsinki is to help people, who hope to participate in the Urban Farming, to get started. The manual could tell us what kind of edible plants can survive in Helsinki, what the local knowledge of farming in Helsinki are, how to design, who could supply some public resource for urban farming in Helsinki and so on.
The manual could be a brochure or an e-book. The manual is open to public edit. Everyone could add and share his experience, could add an address of garden or farm, could share resource with each other. For the manual edition, we could have an app. All the people could co-create the manual for Helsinki. The manual brings us together, we create the manual together.Learn food, learn land and learn each other
This proposal went through because:
This is a very good idea and supports Helsinki's policy as a City of Biodiversity. Thank you also for all the interesting links. In Participatory budjeting this could be financed by hiring an expert for one year to make the guide an coordinating with all the necessary participants. City of Helsinki has made a guide with Dodo about the places where Urban farming could be practised and we have lots of urban farming at allotment gardens already, eventhough there are long queues to get a lot. For example this year we are making over 200 new lots to Viikki. It can be a bit risky to cultivate in a public parks, but these allotment gardens are more safe places for urban farming and you also get help and advice from more experienced gardeners.
