Energy generating Floors
Idea is to generate electricity by walking. We have several metro stations in greater Helsinki region. Floors need to setup with equipment that can generate electricity while walking. There are several 1000's of people walking around in metro areas and other highly populated areas. So equip the floor which has units installed that helps in generating electricity while walking. There are already several concepts around this area and a good implementation of this concept can be seen in Nagpur railway station in India which generates electricity while people walk on those kind of floors.. This way we can encourage people to walk more, contribute to the environment and eco-friendly.

Tämä ehdotus ei edennyt jatkoon.
Kaikkien metroasemien lattioiden uusiminen ylittäisi varatun budjetin huomattavasti. HKL on tehnyt muita energiatehokkuuden ja ilmastonmuutoksen hillinnän toimenpiteitä. Käytämme esim. pelkästään uusiutuvaa sähköä, joten pääkaupunkiseudun metro- ja raitiotieliikenne on päästötöntä.

Interesting suggestion. PB (participatory budgeting) money could definitely be used to finance an investigation and small scale demonstration on this topic. I suppose that actual large scale implementation would cost much more than the money allocated for Helsinki PB.
Thanks Katja. Do let me know further steps on how to proceed ..

Tulasi, would you have some link for demonstrating the idea? How about people moving with a wheelchair? Also, elderly people might have difficulties, so an alternate would be needed.
Below is sort of explanation on concept:
Generating off-grid electricity just by walking around or powering streetlights with your footsteps are no longer visions of a sustainable future, but reality. Kinetic tiles that generate power from human movement enable everyone to generate renewable energy. But how do kinetic tiles work exactly?
Energy of motion:
Kinetic energy is the energy of motion and can therefore be found in every object that moves. In everyday life, we are surrounded by it: be it people strolling in the streets or bikes riding around the city. The process of converting kinetic energy into electrical energy is not a new one. Wind turbines, for instance, generate electricity by transforming the kinetic energy of the wind into electrical energy. While this is an already well-known energy source in the field of renewables, capturing energy from human footfall is a newer approach to generating sustainable energy. With the help of kinetic tiles, energy from human activity
With the help of kinetic tiles, energy from human activity can be captured and converted into electricity.
How do kinetic tiles work?:
The technology we use to harvest kinetic energy is an electromechanical one. Our tiles are designed to slightly displace vertically when people step on them. This vertical movement results in a rotatory motion that generates electrical energy.
Increasing the energy output:
To increase the energy output of our kinetic tiles, we constantly work on improving our technology. Recently we equipped them with walkable solar top sheets and thus created our Smart Energy Floor. The combination of photovoltaic technology and kinetic energy harvesting is unique in the world and leads to an increased energy output of 25 Wp per tile. The Smart Energy Floor offers a solution to capture the kinetic energy and solar power that surrounds us, and that would otherwise be going to waste. Apart from enaging people in generating clean energy, the Smart Energy Floor also enables
them to increase their understanding of sustainability issues, which is necessary to take the next step in the worldwide energy transition.
Hi Miikhali ,
Below is one such link where it has been demoed. There are several videos on this concept circulating in web.

Thanks,
Tulasi.
I think the generated power is far too low vs. investment and mantenance costs.
